Old German Silver Match Safe Vesta Bird Hunting Scene Men Shooting & Dog Chasing

Description: Antique pocket what we believe is German Silver match safe, matchsafe, or Vesta. This beautiful match safe has a raised design depicting a bird hunting scene on both sides. The scene shows two men with hunting rifles. One the men is aiming at a flock of birds while the second man is observing. They are in the outdoors with trees, vegetation, and hills. There is a dog, most likely a setter, ahead of them and appears to be chasing the birds. The image is surrounded by scroll work along the edges and at the corners. The match safe has a hinged lid on top and has the usual striker for the matches on the bottom. The lid hinge works well and snaps in place when closing it, as it should. This nice size match safe is clean and in excellent condition. The match safe is marked "G.SILVER" indicating that it is made of German Silver. Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~2 5/8" by ~1 1/2" by ~3/8" and weighs about 37.5 grams or 1.33 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Marked "G.SILVER" along the inside lip on which the lid rests. See last photo for details.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: An interesting antique match safe. It would make a great addition to your small box collection, matchsafe, tobacco/smoking related collection, or hunting related collection.

Condition: The match safe is in very good used condition with no problems. The hinged lid works great and closes as it should. The matchsafe has no breaks, no losses, and no repairs. The vesta has a few minor surface scratches, rubbing, and some minor and barely recognizable small dings. It is generally clean but could still use a good polishing job to bring out its full beauty but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. A great piece worthy of a spot in your collection.
