Old Pewter Hexagonal Bottle Screw-on Lid w/ Handle Tulips Love Birds Engravings
Description: Beautiful antique pewter tall hexagonal pewter bottle. The bottle has a flat base and straight rising sides rising to a rounded shoulder with a threaded central neck. The bottle has a round lid that screws on the neck. The lid has a handle. The sides of the bottle are decorated with engravings including the initials D.B. within a wreath, tulips in various stage of maturity, a design with two love birds facing each other and a crowned arms. These designs are very common in Pennsylvania Dutch culture and are nicely executed on the sides of the bottle. A beautiful and rather unusual pewter bottle which would display nicely in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Unknown, but most likely late 19th century.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The bottle is ~8 1/2" high with the base being ~4 1/4" at its widest point. The bottle weighs almost two pounds.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice antique and substantial bottle with beautiful carved designs which would display very well in your collection.
Condition: This bottle is in good used condition. It has no breaks, cracks, or repairs. The exterior is stained, scratched with two panels being pushed-in as opposed to being fully flat. The piece has dings and has developed a nice age gray patina. The piece is soiled and would benefit from a good cleaning, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner.
