Pair Vintage Reed & Barton Sterling Weighted and Reinforced Candlestick Holders
Description: A nice pair of vintage Reed & Barton Sterling weighted and reinforced candlestick holders. The holders have a flat base which rises in a step like fashion to a curved area decorated with raised flowers and leaves in relief. The curved top of the base goes into a short neck which then rises to a cup or socket in the shape of a tulip flower to hold a candlestick. This is a short rather than the tall version of these holders. The two sticks are marked on the bottom as to the maker "REED & BARTON" with the indication that they are "STERLING WEIGHTED AND REINFORCED" and has the number 20S. There is also a label that has the words "Reed & Barton Sterling", which is difficult to read but is there on the two candle holders. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of the description.
Date: Uncertain, but most likely mid to late 20th century.
Origin: Bristol Pennsylvania, USA.
Size: Both pieces measure ~3 1/4" in diameter at the base, ~1 3/4" diameter at the top, and are ~3 3/8" high. Both pieces together weigh about one pound.
Maker: Reed & Barton.
Marks: Both pieces are marked on the bottom of the base with the words "REED & BARTON" with the indication that they are "STERLING WEIGHTED AND REINFORCED" and has the number 20S with both having an oval paper label one of which can be read and says "Reed & Barton Sterling".
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice pair of candlestick holders made by a famous American silversmith. They would make a great addition to your collection. Condition: The pair is in good condition with no breaks or repairs. They could use a good cleaning since they are a bit tarnished, but we will leave that to the new owner. Both holders have minor surface scratches throughout and a couple pf minor dings to the edge of the base. They both have some general wear commensurate with their age and utilitarian function. A great looking pair of candlesticks worthy of a spot in your collection or to be used around you home as an elegant accessory. Please see photo for additional condition information.
