Rare 1695 Swiss Silver Coin One Thaler Zurich Canton Republic Rampant Lion VF++
Description: Beautiful darkly toned very fine or better silver coin dated 1695 from Switzerland. This is a one Taler or Thaler coin from the republic of Zurich. The coin depicts a rampant lion at the right and facing left while standing on shield (Arms of Zurich) and holding a sword. The image is surrounded by the inscription "MONETA*NOVA*REIPUBLICAE*TIGURINAE" on the obverse. The reverse has the legend "IUSTITIA/ET/CONCORDIA/1695" within a cartouche of palm branches. This is a rare and very desirable Swiss Cantons and republic coin that is difficult to find in any grade. It is beautiful with nice toning and great eye appeal. It is KM-112 measuring ~41 mm (a beautiful large flan) and weighs ~27.8 gm. Please carefully review the scan provided as it is part and parcel of our description.

Condition: I would grade this beautiful coin as darkly toned very fine or better. The coin is nicely darkly toned with great eye appeal and has all of its details still well preserved. The coin has wear commensurate with its circulated state and you can see the wear on the reverse in the center and on the details of the lion on the obverse. The coin has well preserved peripheral inscription and has no major issues that we could find. It does have wear as discussed above, some surface scratches, and a few minor bag marks. The coin is much better than the photos suggest. Please see photos for additional condition information.
