Rare Antique Large and Heavy Desk Paper Holder, Bill Holder, or Paper Clip Art Nouveau Brass Wall Art Clip

This product is currently sold out.

Description: A nice fairly large and heavy brass clip used to hold mail or paper on a desk top or hang on the wall (the piece has a hole at the top to hang from). This antique paper holder, mail holder, or art clip has a resistance spring that allows it to hold papers very tight. The entire piece is made of brass or brass colored bronze (it seems a bit heavy for its size and hence the possibility that it is bronze). The piece is sort of rectangular in shape with the front having an interesting Art Nouveau design depicting a human head with a feather on top. The man's body is in the form of a scroll with curved lines and balls at the ends. The raised design is very well cast and shows great details such as the eyes, the hair, the nose and the mouth. The back of the clip is flat, plain, smooth, undecorated, unmarked, and is brassy in color. The spring is strong and closes tightly. Just a nice looking antique piece that would look great in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain but most likely late 1800s or early 1900s.

Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The piece measures ~4 7/4" long, ~2 3/4" at its widest, and is about 1 1/4" high at the end where you would push down. The piece weighs a bit over 9 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Condition: The holder is in very good used condition with no breaks, or repairs. It is a bit soiled and has developed a nice age patina. It works very well and all the details are well preserved. The piece has a few scratches all over and the area around the hole in the back is a bit distorted indicating that it was used to hand artwork from a wall on a nail or hook. The design has a nice patina or just possibly darkened from soiling, but it does look good. This is a nice piece, which would display very well in your collection of paper clips or your desktop item collection. Please view photos for additional condition information and to appreciate the beauty of this great piece.
