Rare Roseville Pottery Late 1930s Blue Iris 3.5" Squat Planter, Pot, or Vase

Description: A most beautiful blue colored art pottery squat vase or planter by the Roseville Pottery Company. This a small size planter in the Iris pattern. The pattern shows large white blossoms with a yellow center and having tall and slender green leaves over a blue-turquoise background. It was made in the years 1939 on. The vase has two small handles starting at shoulder of the vase or planter and ending below the rim. See page 128 in Sharon and Bob Huxford's book "The Collector Encyclopedia of Roseville Pottery" published by Collector Books of Paducah, Kentucky in 1991, for a similar piece in brown color. Please carefully view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Sometime in the late 1930's.

Origin: The piece is part of a large collection purchased from a collector in Southern New Jersey, which we will continue to list over the coming weeks and months. It was of course made in Zanesville, Ohio.

Size: The piece measures ~3 1/2" high and is ~3 3/4" in diameter at the top with the base being ~2" in diameter. The piece weighs about 14 ounces.

Maker: Roseville Pottery Company.

Marks: The piece is unmarked, which is sometimes the case according to Mark Moran's book "Warman's Companion Roseville pottery" published by Krause Publication - Iola, Wisconsin in 2006-see page 137.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a truly nice piece having rich, fresh and vivid colors which would display very well in your collection.

Condition: The piece is in very good condition after being around for over 75 years. It has no cracks, hairlines, or repairs. Its colors are fresh and vivid with no losses. Careful examination of the piece reveled no crazing of the glaze, which is unusual for such a piece of old Roseville pottery, but we were unable to see any crazing marks. This is a nice scarce piece which will look great in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
