Rare Silver Egyptian Coin 1939 AD or 1358 AH Crown Size 20 Piastres King Farouk the First Facing Left
Description: A nicely toned, extremely fine or much better, rare 1358 AH or 1939 AD Egyptian twenty piastres silver coin. The coin depicts the bust of King Farouk the first (who ruled Egypt in the period 1936-1952) facing left. He is wearing a uniform and a fez and has the words Farouk the first King of Egypt along the edge on the obverse. The reverse has the words "Al Mamlkah Al Mesryah" (Kingdom of Egypt) in the center in beautiful calligraphy with the date in years AD (1939) and AH (1358), the denomination above it and surrounded with a tasseled wreath. This is a relatively rare coin with low and undefined mintage. Please carefully review the scan presented as it is part and parcel of our description.
Size and Weight: This is a 20 piastres, which is approximately 40 mm in diameter and weighs ~28 gm of 83.3%25 silver. The coin has a reeded rim with the central beaded portion, which is an unusual feature in world coins.
References: It is KM #368.
Condition: I would grade this coin as a nice extremely fine or much better. The details are all well preserved and readable and the coin retains some of its original mint luster. It is much better than the scan shows. It does have scratches, bag marks, and minor dings to the edge, which can be seen in the scan. It has wear commensurate with its age and circulated status. The coin is problem free and in its original circulated condition. Please see photo for additional condition information.
