Scarce 1891 El Banco De Londres Y Mexico Ten Pesos Banknote Pick Number S234b VF

  • $ 147.77

Description: A nice very fine or better Banknote issued by El Banco De Londres Y Mexico Sociedad Anonima. This is the January 9, 1891 series A ten pesos. The banknote is black on brown on yellow on the front and dark brown on the back. The front depicts images of miners at work in two vignettes flanking the denomination with the portrait of Pablo Benito Juarez within an oval to the left. The back shows the Mexican arms in the center with the name of the bank and the denomination in all four corners. The back has a blue treasury seal in the top left corner. The banknote has 3 signatures on the bottom of the front with two appearing to be hand written. The signature in the center has the title Cajero under it. The note has a stamped date near the top right corner of the front. It is in brown ink and difficult to make-out but we think it reads 9 Enero 1891. This particular note has the serial number 82665 shown twice on the front in red color. The note has no watermark that we could find. A rather scarce banknote from Mexico which would make a great addition to your collection. Please carefully review the scans provided as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: January 9, 1891.

Printer: American Bank Note Company, New York.

Size: The banknote measures ~7 1/8" by ~3 1/8".

Pick Number: P# S234b.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a nice very fine or better. The banknote has all the details and they are well preserved. The note has no graffiti, no splits, no pinholes, and no stains. The note is lightly soiled, has several vertical folds and horizontal folds. The note has light roughness along the edges. Its corners are rounded but intact. The date of the issue is stamped with brown ink near the top right corner of the front. The ink of the stamp is rather light on color making it difficult to be sure of the date but we see it as 9 Enero 1891. The note still has some stiffness and has no tears or splits. There are, also, creases and bumps at the corners and a stain to the top left corner. Be that as it may, this is a nice piece to add to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
