  • $ 97.77

Description: This is a nice vintage (circa 1952) advertising hanging thermometer. The thermometer is mounted within a glass frame having green colored decoration, two small round openings one having a four-leaf clover and the other has a 1951 D Lincoln Cent. The thermometer has the words Keep Me II bring You Good Luck; You'll Never Be Brooke" in yellow in the area where the clover leaf and the cent are. There is a card below the thermometer which reads "MERL" MEYERS; 122 N. St. George ST.-Allentown, PA. The Vernon Company Newton, IOWA; 50 Years of America’s Finest Specialties. This was obviously an advertising piece to commemorate 50 years anniversary of the Vernon Company which was established in 1902 and distributed by Merl Meyers of Allentown, PA who was probably their representative in that city. A great advertising piece in relatively good condition after being around for 70 years. The piece has a paper covered backing and a rope to hang from. The front of the piece could probably benefit from a good cleaning, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. A great advertising piece to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 1952.

Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania, USA.

Size: The mirror measures ~12 by ~5 1/2" and is ~3/8" deep. The piece weighs ~13 ounces.

Maker: Uncertain.

Marks: Unmarked as to the maker. However, since The Vernon Company is in the business of making promotion and advertising items, we believe this was made by the Vernon Company.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice example of advertising thermometers, which would display very well and make a nice addition to your collection.

Condition: The piece is in relatively good condition after being around for 70 years. The graphics are all there with no observable losses. There are a few minor scratches to the front, some soiling and browning from age to the label in the bottom of the front as well as loss of color to the clover leaf. The paper covering the backing shows breaks and losses on two of the edges or sides of the backing, which we show in the photos. The rope to be used to hang the piece appears not to be original and maybe a replacement. the front of the piece would probably benefit of a good cleaning, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. All in all, a nice piece of advertising worthy of a spot in your collection. Please view photos carefully for additional condition information.
