Unusual Antique Brass Taper Jacks Candle Holder with Wax Taper Made in Italy
Description: This is an old taper jacks brass candle holder with a brass conical snuffer. The conical snuffer is attached to the holder with a chain. The wax taper or ribbon is wrapped around a horizontal bar with the tip exiting through an opening in the center of a round plate on top supported by a brass bracket emanating from the center of a round base, The conical snuffer has a brass leg which fits in a small rectangular opening attached to the side of the bracket. The horizontal bar is held in place and can be removed by unscrewing it from the bracket by turning the round loop opposite where the snuffer rests. The piece has a handle to carry it around which has a similar design as the bracket and is attached to the base at the bottom and the center. The piece is stamped "MADE ITALY" at the side of the base (see last photo for details). The fact that the piece is marked with made in Italy suggests that it was made in the late 1800s or very early 1900s. The bottom of the base is covered with green felt. A rare and rather unusual piece of brass to add to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of the description.
