Vintage 800 Silver Powder Compact Intact Mirror Enameled Rococo Courting Scene
Description: A beautiful loose powder compact with a hinged lid decorated with an enameled scene. The scene on the hinged lid is a classic Rococo courting scene showing a young lady sitting on the field with a young man courting her. There are trees, sheep, a dog, and plants. The scene is surrounded by solid areas of cobalt blue and green Malachite like colored enameled areas. The inside of the compact is clean and still has an intact mirror. It is missing the screen for loose powder and the puff,. the bottom of the compact is machine turned with a nice floral and foliate design. The thin sides of the compact are decorated with a repeating linear design in the form of a wave on the bottom half and what looks live leaves on the top half. The two halves have thumb pieces to open the compact. The compact closes tight and is a bit difficult to open but it does open. The piece is typical of Austrian compact from the turn of the 20th century and we believe that is where it was made most likely in the early to mid-1900s. The compact is marked with the number 800 for 800 silver and has additional marks which we are not certain what they are for. Be that as it may, this is a great piece worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
