Vintage Bronze Figural Candlestick Holder American Indian Brave in War Clothing Bow, Arrows and Spear
Description: This is a beautiful vintage bronze or bronzed heavy metal figural candlestick or candle stick holder. Because of the heavy weight and the fact that the piece has a nice bronze patina, we believe it to be made of bronze rather that bronzed metal. The candlestick holder is in the form of an Indian warrior or brave wearing his war attire having two feathers in his head, a bow and arrows on his back with a spear under them. He is standing with his arms outstretched and holding a cup in each hand. The cups, which are impressed with Indian decoration serve as the candle holders. The brave is standing on a mound of rocks and is wearing pants having fringes on the side of the legs. He has jewelry around his neck over a typical front bib. The casting is well done and shows great details, look at the facial features, the details in the feathers, the windswept cloth on the front, the decoration on the cups, and the details of the fingers. The piece has an elliptical or slightly off-round base covered with brown felt to protect the surface where it will be used. Just a great and very decorative piece to add to your collection. Please carefully review photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid-1900's.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southern New Jersey.
Size: The base measures ~4 1/2" by ~4 1/4", is ~7 1/4" at its widest, and is ~9 1/8" tall. The opening in the cups where the candle would fit is ~3/4" in diameter and is about 1" deep. The piece is rather substantial and weighs almost two and a half pounds of what we believe is solid bronze.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: The candlestick holder is very nice and would make a great accent in your home decor. It has a beautiful and very distinctive look and would fit nicely in your collection.
Condition: The piece is in very good condition with no breaks, dings, cracks, or repairs. The piece has a few minor scratches and some soiling. The cups have residual was from previous use. The piece is great and all there with no observable problem. The tip of the spear looks bent but we believe that to be original to the making since the spear is attached to the arm and the tip to the bottom of the cup. This is a great decorative piece which would look great in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
