Vintage Cast Iron Doorstop Beautiful Small French Flower Basket National Foundry
Description: This is vintage small cast iron doorstop. The shape of this doorstop is known as French Basket (see page 63 in the book by John and Nancy Smith titled "The Doorstop Book" and published by Schiffer Publishing in 2006). However, the example in the book measures 10" in height while this example measures ~6". The doorstop is very colorful and shows a beautiful wicker basket with colorful flowers on a green pedestal. The basket has a handle with a bow on top. The basket has a mixed bouquet of flowers of various colors. The off-white basket stands on a semi-circular green base. The back of the basket is undecorated and is painted in black. The details of the doorstop are excellent and the coloring is well done. The paint is in very good condition with minimum losses and the doorstop has no appreciable signs of rust. A great small doorstop in excellent condition to add to your collection. Date: Unknown, but most likely early to mid-20th century.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern, Pennsylvania, USA.
Size: Measures ~6" in height and the base measures ~5 1/4" by and 2". The doorstop weighs about 2 pounds and 11 ounces.
Maker: Unknown but according to John and Nancy Smith's book this was made by National Foundry
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is definitely a nice vintage doorstop. It weighs almost 3 pounds and has most of its paint. A beautiful piece which would display very well in your collection.
Condition: This is a vintage small size doorstop ~6" tall and is in the form of a French Basket. It is similar to the 10" tall French Basket by National Foundry. The doorstop is in excellent condition and shows great casting details. The doorstop is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. It retains most of its well done original paint.
