Vintage Cast Iron Hanging Match Holder Putto or Cherub Kissing Young Girl
Description: This is a nice vintage cast iron hanging match holder. The match holder, which is black in color, has two compartments. The bottom compartment is the large compartment and has a lid, while the second and smaller compartment sits above it and has no lid. The lid of the large compartment has a raised design showing a Putto or Cherub kissing a girl or woman having a hair bun. The lid has a thumb piece to open it. The top and smaller compartment has the word MATCHES in raised lettering on its front. The back of the holder has round perforations throughout. It also has a round opening on the apex to hang from. It looks like the two compartments are made of one piece that is held to the backing with a screw. The piece appears to be a recast of an old match holder possibly done mid to late 1900s (20th century). The piece is rather heavy and substantial weighing almost a pound and three ounces. Again, the piece is most likely a vintage recast of an old match holder but shows very nice details. Please carefully view the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
