Vintage Painted Cast Iron Mallard Duck's Head Paper Clip Stamped 5160

  • $ 97.77

Description: A nice vintage painted cast iron clip used to hold mail or paper. This vintage paper holder or clip has a resistance spring that allows it to hold papers very tight. The entire piece is made of cast iron and is cast in the form of the head of a Mallard Drake. The head has yellow-colored eyes with black round pupils. The bill is colored in orange and the head is black or greenish black. The end of the head has a thumb piece in the form of a fan. The clip has a flat base with an opening on top to hang from. The top of the base is textured while the bottom is smooth and is stamped with the number 5160. A very unusual paper clip in very good condition. Just a nice piece that would look great in your collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Unknown but most likely early to mid 20th century, could be earlier.

Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The piece measures ~5 1/4" long at the base, ~1 1/4" at its widest, and is ~1 1/4" at its highest. The piece weighs a bit over 5 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Stamped on the bottom of the base 5160.

Condition: The holder is in very good condition with no breaks, or repairs. It is soiled, scratched, shows pitting, shows color losses, shows rust spots, and has some off -white colored paint along the back edge of the head (see 1st photo), which we are not certain where it came from but we believe is not original to the piece. The clip works well and all the details are well preserved. This is a nice piece, which would display very well in your collection of paper clips or your desktop items collection. Please view photos for additional condition information and to appreciate the beauty of this great piece.
