Vintage Pewter Porringer Handle w/ Flowers & Crescents Jay Stauffer of Lititz PA
Description: Vintage pewter porringer made by Jay Thomas Stauffer. The piece has an applied flat handle or ear having flowers and crescents cutout into it. The porringer has a round base with a step-wise rounded sides rising to a slightly inwards and downwards narrow curved rim. This is a handmade true American modern piece made by a great modern American pewterer. The piece was handmade by Jay Thomas Stauffer, a mid to late 20th century pewterer, who lived in Lititz Pennsylvania. The porringer is marked with Jay's mark (stamped on the bottom of the base) consisting of a spread winged standing eagle surrounded by stars with the initials JTS within an oval below the eagle all within a circle. The porringer is clean and shiny with some soiling but in great condition. It would fit nicely in any collection of American Pewter. Please see photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Mid to late 20th Century.
Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The porringer is ~4 3/4" in diameter at the top, is ~1" high, and is ~7 1/8" at its widest including the handle. The porringer weighs about 7 ounces.
Maker: Jay Thomas Stauffer.
Marks: Stamped on the bottom with the maker's mark consisting of a spread winged standing eagle surrounded by stars with the initials JTS within an oval below the eagle all within a circle.
