Vintage Sterling Silver and Stainless Steel Cake Server Hunt Silver Co., Inc. Sheffield England
Description: A beautiful old sterling silver and stainless steel cake server. The server, which has a serrated edge, has a sterling silver handle and a stainless steel flat portion for serving. The handle which is decorated with raised floral design on both sides with the edges being plain and appears to be made of solid sterling silver. The flat portion, which is serrated on one edge, is made of stainless steel. The flat portion is also marked as to the maker and its location. The handle is marked "Sterling." The piece is not monogrammed, which is rather unusual for such high end pieces. Please carefully view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid 20th century.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Piece made in Sheffield England.
Size: Measures ~10 1/8" long, 2" wide and weighs over 4 1/2 ounces.
Maker: Hunt Silver Co., Inc.
Marks: Has the word "Sterling" on the handle and the words Hunt Silver Co., Inc. SHEFFIELD ENGLAND AND THE WORDS STAINLESS STEEL. There are marks within the words which include the letter H in a shield, a Lion Passant in a rectangle with rounded corners and a third mark we cannot identify. Please see photos.
Condition: The piece is in excellent condition. The server has no breaks or repairs but has some scratches all over. It is clean, solid, substantial, and all there. It shows wear commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. Please see photos for additional condition information.
