Vintage Sterling Silver Candy Dish Or Compote with Long Stem Base Marked Preisner Sterling Weighted 39

Description:   A beautiful nice size sterling silver candy dish or open compote having a long stem and round base. The piece has a round up-stepped base ending in a stem attached to its center. The stem goes up ad meets the bowl where the candy will be. The bowl which is relatively deep is round and has repouse decoration all along its edge. The rest of the bowl is plain and has a step close to the bottom. The bowl is carried on a long and rounded stem which is slightly larger at the top than at the bottom.  The base is marked as to the maker, the fact that it is sterling and has the number 39. The piece weighs about 206 grams which is about 6.6 troy ounces. This is a very nice piece of vintage sterling silver which weighted. A great looking piece which would add class to your table. Date:  Uncertain, but most likely mid to late 20th Century  

Origin:  Connecticut USA. Purchased at an estate sale in Lancaster Pennsylvania.  

Size:  2 3/4" diameter at the base, 5 3/8" diameter at the top, and is 6" high. The piece weighs 206 grams, which would translate to about 6.6 troy ounces.  

Maker:  Preisner Silver Company.   Marks:  Marked on the bottom with the words "Preisner Sterling Weighted 39".   

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece:  This is definitely a beautiful nice size and heavy piece of an elegant and distinguished design that would make a great addition to your collection or can be used for every day elegant living.  

Condition:  It is in very good condition despite its age and utilitarian function. It has no cracks, hairlines, or repairs. The piece has a few minor dings at the edge of the base. However, these are small and difficult to see but can be felt with your finger. The piece also has many scratches and some tarnish and could use a good cleaning but we are leaving this to the next owner. Please see photos to appreciate beauty and condition of the piece.
