Vintage Straton Solid Make-up Compact with Mirror and Pad Enameled Floral Design
Description: A beautiful loose powder compact with a hinged lid decorated with an enameled scene. The scene on the lid is a floral scene showing three flower pots with various types of flowers in a nice brown, orange, black, and gold coloring. The bottom of the compact has a machined pattern with the words "Straton Made in England" in the center. The compact comes in a felt type black pouch. When opened, the hinged lid reveals the inner hinged rim, which holds the screen or sifter. The compact is for use with solid make-up which would be inserted below the sifter and kept in place with the inner hinged rim, which locks in place with a small button. The interior as well as the sides are also gold colored. The compact comes with a make-up pad marked Straton; Made in England. The piece comes with its original literature in the form of a fold-out heavy printed paper. The lid has a beveled glass mirror. The compact comes with its original fitted screen. This compact appears to have never been used and is clean inside and out, it does have some roughness along the inner hinged rim, which we attempt to show in the photos. Size: The compact measures ~3 1/4" in diameter and about 1/4" thick. The pouch in which the compact comes is ~3 3/4" by ~3 1/2". The piece weighs almost 4 ounces.
Maker: Straton.
Marks: Marked "Straton Made in England" on the bottom, on the powder pad, and has the name Straton on the literature. It is also marked PAT 76412B on the interior edge.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a beautiful compact which is clean and in very good condition. A nice piece, which would make a worthy addition to your collection.
Condition: The compact is in very good condition and is all original. It appears to have never been used. The exterior pouch is in good condition but s a bit soiled. The interior is clean with the pad having a bit of wear on the application side with some partially loose felting. There is some minor roughness along the inner hinged rim, which we attempt to show in the photos, but nothing to truly worry about. The enamel is intact and it does not have dings, breaks or repairs. The mirror intact and solidly in place. Finally, the screen is a is clean and intact as well as the instruction pamphlet, which is a bit soiled.
