Vintage Wood Humidor Lid with Central Finial Carved Bamboo Decoration
Description: An old humidor or tobacco jar made of wood. The humidor is shaped as a barrel and its exterior is made of a single piece of wood with added bottom that is a separate piece of wood. The humidor or jar has a well fitting wooden lid, which appears to be made of a single piece of wood. The lid has a compartment in its center on the inside where a sponge to humidify the tobacco can be inserted. The lid has a central finial in the shape of a door knob. The exterior of the jar itself has carved decoration depicting bamboo plants all around the circumference. The exterior of the piece and the lid have a brown colored finish, while the interior is unfinished. The piece is in very good condition and would make a great addition to your collection or as a gift. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime in the mid 1900's.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: Barrel measures ~3 1/4" in diameter at the base and is ~6" high with the lid on to the top of the finial. The piece weighs about 12 ounces.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice humidor retaining its original finish with nice carved decoration, which would make a worthy addition to your collection.
Condition: Humidor is in very good condition given its age. The humidor does not appear to have been used, since it has no tobacco smell in it. The jar is intact with no breaks, repairs or losses. The exterior has scratches, a couple of nicks to the edge of the base and a few dings to the exterior. There is also a line, which can be seen in the second photo, starting at the base and rising for about 1 1/2" at a slight angle which is truly a natural defect in the wood and does not represent damage. The piece is clean inside and out and looks great. The inside is clean and intact. A great piece to add to your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
