2001 Hand Carved Polychrome Painted Wooden Primitive Standing Rooster By Daniel Strawser

  • $ 420.00

Description: A nice primitive polychrome painted carved wood sculpture in the form of a standing rooster by Daniel Strawser. The rooster is standing on a small green base with beak slightly open. The rooster is light brown in color with a darker brown and white highlights. It has white eyes with black pupils and black eye brows. The rooster has a red comb on top of its head and red wattles under its head. The rooster's tail is carved and highlighted with brown to mimic feathers while the sides of the rooster have brown painted wings highlights. This piece is carved in the style of William Schimmel, of Cumberland Valley, PA, who carved similar birds and animals in the 1800's. The bottom of the small green base under the rooster's legs has the letters "D. + D.S." and "2001" written in black ink on it. This is for Daniel and Donna Strawser and the year 2001. Again, this piece is very much in the Pennsylvania Dutch wood carving tradition instituted by Wilhelm Schimmel of Cumberland County Pennsylvania in mid to late 1800's. This is a beautiful piece of Americana worthy of a spot in your collection of primitive wood carvings. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
