Antique Pewter Deep Bowl Wide Flat Rim with Shaped Edge Engraved With Original Owner Name and Dated 1801 Marked with Standing Angel
Description: An antique deep pewter bowl having a flat wide rim with a shaped edge and an incised line all along the edge. The bowl has a footed round flat base. The sides of the bowl are rounded and outwards flared to the flat rim. The bowl is marked in the center of the base with what we believe is a standing angel mark suggesting the bowl was made in Germany. It is engraved on the bottom with what we believe is the name of the original owner's name. The bowl has acquired a nice gray age patina. Date: Uncertain but most likely late 18th century.
Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The piece was most likely made in Germany.
Size: The base measures ~3 3/4" in diameter, it is ~8 7/8", and the piece is ~2" high. The mold weighs over one pound and 3 ounces.
Maker: Unknown.
Marks: Marked with what we believe is a standing angel but the mark is a very worn out. The bowl is also engraved with the following J. C. Ko... with the inscription past the letter "o" being not decipherable.
Condition: It is in relatively good condition. The piece has developed a beautiful gray age patina. The bowl is intact with no breaks or repairs, It has many scratches and multiple dings many of them fairly large. Be that as it may, the piece is nice and would make a great addition to your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
