Antique Pewter Snuffbox or Snuff Box Raised Deer Design Flowers & Foliage on Lid
Description: Offered here is an antique (mid 19 century) small pewter snuff box or snuffbox. The box is rectangular in shape and has straight sides and a hinged lid. The box also has rounded corners. The lid of the box is decorated with a raised design depicting a central scene showing a Buck and two Doe sitting on the ground. The design is surrounded with a beautiful floral and foliate design. This design is also repeated on the bottom of the box. The lid has a thumb piece on the front. There is also the name A. Moorel written in beautiful calligraphy on the front of the box. We believe this is the name of the original owner of the box who most likely received it as a gift. The box is in fair condition with soiling throughout and a nice patina. The box has the front side separated from the base and pushed in slightly. This of course would preclude using the box to store snuff as it would leak from the opening. The hinge is intact and works fine, but the lid opens easily and does not close tightly again precluding the box from being used to store snuff. Other than that, the box is all original and is in fair condition for being over 150 years old. A nice snuff box in fair to good condition after being around for over 150 years, which would make a nice addition to any collection. Pleases carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but was made sometime in mid to late 1800s (mid to late 19th century).

Size: The box measures ~2 3/8" by ~1 1/4" by ~5/8" and weighs about 1.5 ounces.
Maker: Unknown.
Marks: Unmarked as to the name of the maker. Has the name A. Moorel written in beautiful calligraphy on the front of the box.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: An interesting antique snuffbox in fair to good original condition, which would make a nice addition to your snuffbox collection or tobacco/smoking related collection.
Condition: The box is in generally fair to good condition with minor dings, scratches, and staining. The box has soiling throughout and a dark patina. The box has the front side separated from the base and pushed in slightly. This of course would preclude using the box to store snuff as it would leak from the opening. The hinge is intact and works fine, but the lid opens easily and does not close tightly, again precluding the box from being used to store snuff. Other than that, the box is all original and is in fair condition for being over 150 years old. The box also has a paper label affixed to the back of the lid with writing in ink. The box could probably use a good cleaning to bring its full beauty out, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Just a nice antique pewter snuffbox worthy of a spot in any collection.
