Oval Shaped Bonbonniere Box Raised Rabbit on Grass Halcyon Days Enamels England

  • $ 127.77

Description: A beautiful small oval-shaped enamel on copper Bonbonniere or box by Halcyon Days Enamels of England. This very colorful box has a hinged lid and the box looks very much like the antique (18th century) Battersea enameled patch boxes in shape and profile. The lid of the box is shaped in the form of a brown colored rabbit laying down on green grass with small flowers all around. The box has a slightly rounded bottom decorated with a transfer depicting mama rabbit guiding two juvenile rabbits in front of her. The rabbits are brown and they are standing on green grass with a flower bush in the background. The box is also enameled on the inside with the bottom has a black line drawing show two rabbits talking to each other and the lid has the maker's mark. Both top and bottom are fitted with brass rings having a hinge on the back and a thumb piece on the front top portion. Of course, as is always the case with these English enamels these decorations are transfers as opposed to being hand painted. The brass rings of both the top and bottom have been treated to darken them and thus complementing the brown coloring of the rabbits. This is a very nice piece to add to your collection of small enameled boxes. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
