Unusual Vintage Pewter Bucket with Handle Marked RM Over Fruits & Serpent

  • $ 174.99

Description: A nice looking and rather unusual pewter bucket. The bucket has a swiveling handle and a round base. The bucket has outwards flared sides ending in rolled rim. The bucket is decorated with three incised lines in the middle of the height. It is marked on the bottom with two marks one showing a fruit bowl with the letters RM on top within a shield and the other of a serpant or snake within a circle flanked by two flowers. It is our opinion that these marks are what is known as imitation hallmarks common in the pewter trade and that the piece is rather new from the mid to late 20th century. Be that as it may, it is a nice looking substantial piece worthy of a spot in your collection, which would display very nicely. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain but most likely mid to late 20th century.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~3 1/2" in diameter at the base, ~4 5/8" in diameter at the top, and is ~4 3/4" high. The piece itself weighs over one pound and 4 ounces.

Maker: Unknown

Marks: Marked on the bottom with two marks one showing a fruit bowl with the letters RM on top within a shield and the other showing a serpent or snake within a circle flanked by two flowers.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a great looking piece of pewter having an unusual shape, which would display very nicely in your collection. Condition: The bucket is in excellent condition with a nice warm gray patina. The bucket is free of dings, breaks, or repairs. It has some surface scratches, a couple of minor dings to the edge of the base, and some minor staining. The piece could possibly benefit from some cleaning, but we leave that to the new owner. Please see photos to appreciate the beauty of the two pieces and for additional condition information.
