Vintage Hand Carved Polychrome Painted Wooden Primitive Standing Rooster Glass Eyes and Antiqued Surface Unknown Maker

Description: A beautiful hand carved wood and polychrome painted American Folk Art rooster standing and having a fan shaped tail over and a red comb on top of its head. The rooster is painted in yellow and cream coloring and the surface is antiqued with dark paint to mimic color loss. The rooster has glass eyes, orange colored legs and feet, a red beak and red comb. The rooster is standing on a dark brown or black colored base. The entire piece is carved of wood. Just a wonderful piece of American Folk Art to add to your Americana Collection. The piece shows nice details and although the rooster is stylized, it is still very much in the best tradition of primitive American folk art from Pennsylvania. Date: Unknown but most likely late 20th century.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The piece measures ~10 5/8" at its highest and ~7" at its longest with the base measuring ~3 3/4"" by ~3". The piece weighs about 1 pound and 1 ounce.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and colorful piece of primitive Americana, which would make a great addition to your collection.

Condition: The carving is in excellent condition, with no breaks, cracks, losses, or repairs. It does have crackling to the paint along the beginning of the tail within the body of the rooster this adds to the antiqued look of the piece and is hard to see.
