1986 Hand Made Royal Doulton Toby Character Mug "The Guardsman" Modeled By Stanley James Taylor D6755 Sword & Scarf Handle

Description: This is a Beautiful hand-made and hand-decorated figural mug by the Royal Doulton Company. This mug is titled "The Guardsman" and is signed by Stanley James Taylor who modeled the character. The mug depicts the figure of a Guardsman normally seen in front of royal palaces, such as Buckingham Palace in London, in his tall black hat and red coat. The guardsman's face is colored in flesh tone with light colored eyes. The mug has an applied handle in the form of what we believe is a brown scarf intertwined with a sword. The bottom of the mug is marked with the Royal Doulton mark. A real nice piece which is very desirable by collectors of Toby Mugs. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: This mug is dated 1986 on the base.

Origin: England, Great Britain.

Size: The mug is ~8" high, ~6 1/4" at its widest including the handle, and the base is ~5 3/4" by ~4". The piece weighs about two pounds and 3 ounces.

Maker: Royal Doulton.

Marks: On the base in green under glaze the following markings: Royal Doulton Mark with a lion over a crown on top of a circle having four "D"s in its center and the words Made in England; Royal Doulton; England around it. It also has the words "Royal Doutlton; THE GUARDSMAN; D6755; Modelled by: with the signature of Stanley James Taylor followed by (c) 1986 Royal Doulton" below it. There is also the words "Hand Made and Hand Decorated" surrounding the mark. Finally, the piece has the number 66 near the edge of the base, which we are uncertain what it is for. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a real nice 32 years old piece in great condition, which is very desirable by collectors of Toby Mugs.

Condition: The Mug is in excellent condition. It has no chips, cracks, hairlines, crazing, or repairs. The piece has a spot on the foot,, the bottom of the next to last photo, which looks like it maybe a csmall chip. However, careful inspection suggest that this is original to the making. Other than that, the piece is clean and was well taken care of. Please see photos for additional condition information and details.
