1967 Portugal 1000 Escudos A Beautiful Extremely Fine Banknote Pick Number 172a Queen Maria II

  • $ 87.99

Description: A beautiful extremely fine or much better banknote from Portugal. This is the 19 May 1967 one thousand Escudos. The banknote has a blue, dark brown and violet design over a tan and multi-colored underprint. The front has the image of Queen Maria II of Portugal in the mid 1800s and known as the queen mother, to the right. The back has the same color scheme as the front, but with more brown, and depicts the image of Queen Maria II within a circular medallion to the left and the image of the Banco De Portugal building in 1846 to the right. The note has two signatures on the front as well as the denomination, date and serial number. This particular note has the serial number BXQ12607, which is displayed twice on the front of the note but not on the back. It is also marked Ch.10. on the front. The back also displays the denomination but not the serial number. The banknote has a watermark depicting the image of Queen Maria II. It is marked Mil Escudos Ouro or One Thousand Gold Escudos. The note has a segmented thin security thread to the left of center. Please carefully view scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: 19 May 1967.

Printer: Bank of Portugal.

Size: The banknote measures 6 3/8" by ~3 1/4".

Pick Number: P 172a.

Condition: I would grade this banknote as a choice extremely fine with all the details being very well preserved. The note has two light vertical folds in the center. The note retains most of its original crispiness, stiffness, and sheen. Its corners are intact, squared with minimum rounding if any. The note has no tears, splits, pinholes, graffiti, or stains. It is clean with no soiling and the edges of the note are intact with no signs of damage, roughness or nicks. Please see photo for additional condition information.
