2001 Tim Strawser Tramp Art Style Wood Painted Primitive Folk Art Box Slide Lid

  • $ 77.77

Description: A hand carved wood and polychrome painted brown colored American Folk Art box. This small wooden box, which is of the Tramp Art style, has a sliding lid and is decorated with round carved multi-layer circles with yellow dots on two of the four sides and on top of the lid. Two of the sides of the box are decorated with rectangular raised shapes instead of the circles. All sides and the lid are raised in multiple layers, again in the Tramp Art style, with notched edges. The top of the lid is also raised and has the notched edges and the white dot decorations. The raised notched decorations on the sides and top appear to be held together with glue and attached to the flat portions with nails. The sides themselves and the bottom appear to be held together with nails and glue. The bottom of the box is signed and dated by the artist. The inside of the box is not painted and neither is the bottom of the lid and they all show the bare wood. Just a wonderful and nicely done piece of American Folk Art to add to your Americana Collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and colorful piece of Americana, which would make a worthy addition to your collection.

Condition: The box is in very good condition, with no breaks, cracks, losses, or repairs. It does have minor scratches, minor dings to the surface, and minimal loss to the paint. As you can see from the photos some of the glue used to hold the decoration together can be seen in the form of a thin white line. However, these lines are not as obvious as the photos suggest when you look at the box naked eye. In addition, the box is soiled and dusty and would benefit from a good cleaning. However, we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Please see photos for additional condition information.
