Antique Continental Brass Rectangular Box or Snuffbox with Hinged Lid Dated 1856
Description: Offered here is an antique (dated 1856) rectangular shaped brass box (snuff box or snuffbox?). This box is rectangular in shape with flat top and bottom having with angled corners meeting rounded sides. The top represents a hinged lid which is engraved with a decorative curvy linear pattern surrounding a name written in very decorative calligraphy with the date 1856 under the name. The name is difficult to identify because it is partially worn-off but we believe we see the letters "P. D. S??lon" (please see the second photo for details). The box is rather heavy for its size weighing 3 ounces. It fits nicely in the palm of your hand and appears to be lined with a white metal (possibly pewter?) on the inside. The hinge for the lid is intact and works as it should, the lid is fitted with a thumb piece and closes nicely. The box is unmarked as to the maker. The box appears to be all original and is in very good condition for being almost 170 years old. A nice box, which would make a nice addition to any collection. Pleases carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: An interesting antique box in very good original condition, which would make a nice addition to your small box collection.
Condition: The box is in very good condition with scratches throughout and a small stain on the bottom of the base. The hinge is intact and the lid closes properly. The interior of the box is clean and appears to be lined with some sort of metal. The exterior of the box is clean and is engraved with the words “P. D. S??lon 1856" (we are unable to identify some of the letters - see second photo for details). The box is all original and is in good condition with no breaks or repairs after being around for almost 170 years. The box could probably use a good cleaning to bring its full beauty out, but we leave that to the discretion of the new owner. Just a nice antique brass box or snuffbox worthy of a spot in any collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
