Halcyon Days Enamels Round Enameled Box Christmas 1990 Gift Good King Wenceslas Carol Made in England

  • $ 59.99

Description: A 1990 beautiful lidded enamel on copper round box by Halcyon Days Enamels of England. The box looks very much like the antique (18th century) Battersea enameled patch or snuff boxes in shape and profile. The box is decorated with very colorful drawing depicting a king drudging in the snow with his servant behind him. Presumably King Wenceslas with his servant behind him. There is a moon in the dark blue sky and a castle in the background. The image is surrounded with a red and green foliate design. The lid also has the words "Christmas 1990" written in black on the bottom of the decoration. The sides of the box, which are curved in shape, have decoration depicting deer in a snow pasture with green trees behind them and words from the Christmas Carol by John Mason Neale titled "Good King Wenceslas." The inside of the lid has a drawing of showing "a poor man gathering winter fuel" per the famous Christmas Carol. Of course as is always the case with these English enamels these decorations are transfers as opposed to being hand painted. The bottom of the box is white and has the maker's mark. The brass hinged lid adds to the beauty of this dainty box with an outwards extending thumb piece. This is a very nice piece to add to your collection of small enameled boxes.
