1776 Vatican Copper Medal Pope Pius VI AN II Military Barracks in Civitavecchia

  • $ 357.77

Description: A nice papal states copper medal with the image of the bust of Pope Pius VI who was pope in the period 1775-1799 on the obverse. The medal is the annual medal for the 2nd year of the pope's reign. It was issued to commemorate the building of the new Military Barracks in Civitavecchia. The obverse shows the bust of the pope facing right with the inscription "PVIS.VI.PONT.M.AN.II" surrounding the pontiff’s bust along the edge. The reverse shows the front of the new Military Barracks building in Civitavecchia. The medal shows great details of the building and shows two soldiers in front of the building and a man on a horse too, plus what looks like a person laying down. The image is surrounded by the legend "TVETVR.ET.ORNAT". The reverse has also the legend "CENTVM.CELLIS/MDCCLXXVI" in exergue. The medal is uncirculated with clear fields with no observable wear and spots retaining residual luster on the reverse. The medal has a plain edge. This is a nice-looking medal with great eye appeal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
