
1897 Silver Medal Pope Leo 13 Yr. 21 Bianchi Pinturicchio's Fresco Resurrection
Description: A nice mint state silver medal issued by the Vatican in 1898 to commemorate the resurrection of Christ. The high relief medal shows the bust of pope Leo XIII facing left on the obverse with the legend "LEO XIII.PONT.MAX.AN.XXI" surrounding it. The medal was designed by Bianchi. The reverse of the medal depicts Pinturicchio's Fresco of the Resurrection c. 1495 showing the image of pope Alexander VI kneeling and praying in front of the risen Christ on top of a casket. The reverse has the legend "BORGIANIS.DIAETIS.IN.CVLTVM.PRISTINVM.RESTITVTIS" (the Borgia’s diet restored in the original state) along the edge surrounding the design and "MDCCCXCVIII" in exergue. The medal is nicely toned and has great eye appeal. It is graded by NGC as Mint State MS61 and comes in a plastic holder so labeled. A truly nice-looking medal, which would make a worthy addition to any collection. Please carefully review the photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
