1954 Egypt 10 Piastres Banknote Signed Abdel El Hamid El Sherif P175a Crisp Unc.

  • $ 77.77

Description: A nice and uncommon apparent crisp uncirculated banknote from Egypt. This is the 10 piastres note issued according to law number 50 of 1940 by the republican government and does not show the date of issue but was issued in the period Aril 1954 through August 1954 based on the signature El Sherif, who was the minister of Economy and Finance during that period. The front of the note is gray blue to black showing a group of Egyptians carrying the Egyptian flag at the time and marching forward. The group consist of a peasant with pick on his shoulder, and industrial laborer carrying a wrench and two women being led by a soldier carrying a rifle in his hand. The back is blue in color with red decoration as well as red denomination. The note is in Arabic on the front and in English on the back. The note has a water mark showing the three Pyramids of Giza and is located within the white oval to the left of the front. This particular note has the serial number 393757 and is series "T/10" which is shown in Arabic in the bottom center of the front and in English in the top left. It is signed by Abdel Hamid El Sherif, minister of economy and finance of Egypt in the period April 1954 through August 1954. The note was printed by the Survey Agency of Egypt. Please carefully view scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description. Date: No Date identified, printed in 1954. Printer: The Survey Agency of Egypt. Size: The banknote measures ~4 5/8" by ~2 1/2". Pick Number: P 175a and is listed in the Banknote Book as B220b. Condition: I would grade this banknote as apparent crisp uncirculated with all the details being very well preserved. The note has several light and minor wrinkling (and hence the use of apparent instead of just crisp uncirculated), due to mishandling rather than being due to circulation. The note is clean with no soiling or stains. Its colors are still vivid and fresh with no fading. The note has no graffiti, no pinholes, no tears, and no splits. The edges are intact and do not show any roughness. The corners are intact and fully squared with no rounding. A very nice note that is rather rare and difficult to come by in any condition. This is a good find for your collection. Please see photo for additional condition information.
