1962 Belgian Congo Ruanda-Urundi Central Bank 1000 Francs Banknote P2a PMG VF30

Description: A nice very fine banknote from the Democratic Republic of Congo. This is the 15 February 1962 one thousand Francs currency note issued by the Central Bank of the Belgian Congo and Ruanda-Urundi. The banknote is purple on multicolored underprint. The front depicts the image of an African man at left and notation as to the fact that the note was issued by the Monetary Council of the Republic of Congo to the right. There is an image of men in a canoe on a river in the center at the bottom, The front also shows the date, serial number, and denomination all in French, but has no signatures. The back is brown on red underprint and has the image of a water buck drinking in a stream. The back also shows the denomination and the name of the issuing bank in Flemish language. The note has no watermark that we could find. It is dated 15.02.62. This particular note has the serial number CM2963980, which is displayed twice in black on the front. The note is graded by PMG as Very Fine 30 and comes in a plastic holder so marked. Please carefully review scans presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Size: The banknote measures ~7 1/4" by ~4 1/8". 

Pick Number: P 2a and is listed in the Banknote Book as B101a. 

Condition: The note is graded by PMG as Very Fine 30 and comes in a plastic holder so marked. The note has several folds, both vertical and horizontal, is lightly soiled with a few minor and small stains. The note has no pinholes, no graffiti, and minimum wear to the edges. The corners are intact with minor rounding, bumps, and creases. This is a nice example of this rather interesting note, which would make a nice addition to your collection.
