1982 Havre De Grace Carved Wood ~9 3/4" Mallard Hen Duck Decoy By Clarence Bauer
Description: A beautiful ~9 3/4" carved wood and painted duck decoy from Havre de Grace at the mouth of the Susquehanna River on the Chesapeake Bay in eastern Maryland. The decoy, which shows a Mallard Hen, has a flat base and beautiful carved and painted body with a minimum of carved details. The carved details include some carving to show the definition the bill and defining where the bill meets the head. The piece is carved of wood and is painted in shades of yellowish-brown, brown, orange, black, some green, white, and blue. The bottom of the decoy is signed and dated by the artist Clarence Bauer who worked with Madison Mitchell and is one of the best known miniature decoy maker in the eastern part of Maryland. It is really a nice Maryland piece that is well done and signed by the artist. It would make a great addition to your collection, or it can be used to decorate around your house. Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The decoy measures ~9 3/4" long, ~ 4 at its widest, and ~4 1/8" at its highest point. The piece weighs a little over 7 ounces.
Maker: Clarence Bauer.
Marks: Signed Clarence Bauer and has the date 1982 in cursive calligraphy on the base.
Condition: The piece is in very good condition with minimum wear to the finish. The paint is all there and shows very little loss if any. The colors are fresh and vivid with no fading. The piece is intact with no breaks, cracks or repairs. The piece has a few minor scratches or dings; It is clean and has no stains.
