Antique French Silver Dresser Box Repousse Design Children Procession in Forest

  • $ 527.77

Description: An antique oval silver dresser box from the late 18th century. The box which has repousse design on the hinged lid and the sides, is hallmarked on the plain bottom. The box has a hinged lid, which has a repousse design depicting children in a procession in the forest. There is a child in the front holding tall stick and is leading the procession. There is a child being carried by another while playing the flute. One of the children is draped in a cape, while the other four children are obviously nude. The sides on the box are bombe in shape and are decorated with a beautiful repousse design depicting repeating floral design intermingled with a design depicting a bowl of fruit. The bottom of the box is undecorated and displays two marks. One of crowned decorative "A" and a second showing what we believe is a Fleur-de-Lis. The box is intact with no breaks or repairs. It is clean with residue of silver cleaning agent here and there. The hinge is intact and world as it should. A beautiful antique over 200 years old in good condition to add to your collection. Condition: The box is in very good condition with no breaks or repairs. The repousse design, on the lid and the sides, is well preserved and looks great. The hinge is intact and works as it should and the lid closes as it should. The box has no cracks and is clean both inside and out. It does have residue of silver cleaning agent here and there. The box has a few minor scratches as well as a few minor dings, which truly do not distract from its beauty and quality. Other than that, the box has honest wear from age and cleaning.
