Circa 1750 Antique 9 1/2" Pewter Wide Rim Plate American or English Markings
Description: An antique pewter plate from of unknown origin. The plate which has hallmarks and is also marked with letters is believed to be a circa 1750 plate and is of English or American origin. This plate has a ~1 1/2" wide flat rim with a rounded bottom edge. The plate has a slightly depressed center decorated with an incised line near where the rim starts with a slightly raised center. The rim itself also has no decoration. The pewter plate is ~9 1/2" in diameter and ~1/2" in height, translating to the plate having a low profile. The plate has a fairly shallow center with a decorative incised line along its periphery. The plate has what is reminiscent of English Sterling Silver hallmarks on the underside. These are fairly worn-off and are difficult to discern. There are also letters punched on the bottom including VV A and others that are worn-off. There are also the numbers 7115 22/6 written with ink on the bottom suggesting this piece was part of some collection as well as a paper label, which we chose not to remove indication the piece is Circa 1750 and is either American or English. A nice antique pewter plate, which would make a nice addition to your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Condition: The plate is in good condition given its age (almost 250 years old) and utilitarian function. It has no breaks, cracks, or repairs. The plate has a nice gray age patina and shows a lot of character. It has scratches and dings throughout, which can be seen in the photos. The edge f the plate has a spot of some roughness (at 10 o'clock in the first photo and 12 o'clock in the 4th photo) as well as a few dark spots. as does the center of the plate. There is also a relatively large bump to the rim, which can be seen in the 4th photo at 5:30 o'clock. Be that as it may, the plate is very nice and worthy of a spot in your collection.
