1986 Glazed Redware Folk Art Small Mouth Bass Figurine Williams Berks County PA
Description: A nice green and brown colored unusual glazed redware fish made by RL Meyers Williams of Berks County Pennsylvania. This green and brown fish is curved in shape. It has an open mouth and round bulging eyes with its center being brown with a black dot in the middle. The fish has six fins two on each side near the bottom and two on top. The fish has a flat unglazed base on which it sits. The base shows the color of unglazed redware and is marked and dated by the artist. The base is signed by RL Meyers Williams of Berks County Pennsylvania and is dated 1986. It also indicates that the fish rendered in this sculpture in a Amall Mouth Bass. A great looking and very well-done piece of modern redware to add to your collection. Please carefully view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The fish is ~7 3/4" long, ~2 1/2" at its highest (the tip oof the tail, and is ~2" at its widest. The piece weighs about 14.5 ounces.
Maker: RL Meyers Williams.
Marks: Marked "RL MEYERS WILLIAMS BERKS CO. PA. 1986/ SMALL MOUTH BASS" with the drawing of a heart at the end, on bottom of the base block letters.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful piece of contemporary redware made by a capable potter. A beautiful piece, which deserves a prominent spot in your redware collection.
Condition: The fish is in very good condition with no cracks, repairs, chips, or hairlines. The piece has general crazing to the glaze, which is not obvious with the naked eye, but can be seen with a magnifier. The piece also has a flake to the glaze at the top point of the tail (see the last photo) and a much smaller, a flee bite, on the lower tip of the mouth, which is not obvious but can be felt. Be that as it may, this is a great looking piece that is very unusual coloring, subject and shape that very seldom comes by. A nice piece that would display nicely in your collection of redware animals, or fish related collection.
