19th Century Antique Painted Wood Candlebox Candle Box Sliding Lid
Description: Antique rectangular painted wood or wooden candle box or candlebox having a flat base with straight sides rising to a notched end where a sliding wooden lid fits. Both the box four sides and the lid are painted with a faux wood grain dark brown with lighter brown highlight coloring and a yellow golden frame like line all around a short distance from the edge as a decoration. The lid has a notch to pull it out. The bottom of the box is unpainted. The box construction is a nail construction with all the nails painted over. This small but very beautiful box shows the unpainted wood on the inside and on the back of the lid. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A beautiful and very rare antique which would make a great addition to any antique box or Americana collection.
Condition: The box is in great condition given its age. It has wear and paint losses commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. It is lean with no breaks or repairs. It does have paint losses along the edges , some minor losses and a small crack at one of the bottom corners, other minor cracks at the top corners, and general wear at all other corners. It also has a ~2" long crack along the left side at the slot where the lid fits. The entire surface has scratches and some minor paint losses. The back of the lid has some pitting indicative of wood insect damage, but the box is free of insects and the lid is still intact and solid. There is a scratch along one of the edges of the back of the lid, but this is not a crack since it does not go through to the other side. We have taken many photos of the piece in an attempt to show the beauty and condition of this great and rare candle box. Please carefully review the photos for additional condition information.
