Antique Deep Carved Wood Primitive Butter Print Stylized Thistle Decoration Knob Like Handle
Description: A beautiful antique lathe turned wood wooden butter print. The butter print, which is made of a single piece of wood is decorated with a deep carved stylized thistle flower design. The print has a large flat surface with a deep carved design of the thistle surrounded by large leaves on either side. The design is framed in triple incised lines along the edge of the print. The print has a knob like handle on top. The entire piece appears to be made of a single piece of softwood. See pages 138-139 in Paul Kinding's book "Butter Prints and Molds" Published by Schiffer Publishing Limited of West Chester PA in 1986 for similar examples. Size: Measures ~4 1/4" in diameter at the design part and is ~3 1/8" high.
