Antique Primitive Hogscraper Push-up Candlestick Holder Marked HEIST

Description: A beautiful antique primitive hogscraper or hog scraper shaped push-up candlestick holder. This mid 1800s primitive candlestick holder has a raised disc shaped base with a central tubular stem. The stem has a push-up mechanism with the thumb piece used to push the candle stamped with the letters "HEIST." The tubular stem has an inwards and downwards slanted wax catcher. There is also a curved extension at the top to help carry the piece. A very interesting antique tin candlestick holder in very good condition. It would make a great addition to your collection. Date: Uncertain but most likely mid 19th century.

Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania, where it was most likely made.

Size: The mold measures ~4 3/4" in diameter at the base and is ~6 7/8" in height. The piece weighs about 6 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Marked "HEIST" on top of the thumb pice.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice tin American primitive piece in great condition and worthy of a spot in your collection.

Condition: The candlestick holder is intact with some wear to the surface and some rust spots throughout. It is in good condition with no break, losses, or repairs. The surface has scratches, dings and rust spots, which can be seen in the photos but are nothing of true concern. The piece has general textured surface suggesting a finish with small areas where the textured finish is lost. It is generally clean and has aged to a dark patina.
