Beautiful Antique Carved Hardwood Primitive Butter Print Stylized Pineapple Fruit Fluted Border

Description:   A beautiful antique lathe turned and carved hardwood butter print. The butter print has a carving depicting a stylized carefully balanced plant with a stylized pineapple. There are leaves on branches emanating from the base of the fruit and extending to the side of the fruit. There is also a tuft of vegetation on top of the fruit. The fruit carving is surrounded with a fluted border all along the edge of the round print. The butter print has a small knob like handle in the center with a flat top. The entire piece appears to be made of a dark hardwood and has been finished with a dark brown stain the lacquered. See page 147 figure V-251 in Paul Kindig's book "Butter Prints and Molds" published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd in 1986 for similar examples displayed in the collection of Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts. Date:  Late 1800's to early 1900's. 

Origin:  Southeastern Pennsylvania. 

Size:  Measures ~4 1/4" in diameter at the design part and is ~2 1/4" high. The piece itself weighs about 3.4 ounces. 

Maker:  Unknown. 

Marks:  Unmarked. 

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece:  Very nice antique butter print with a nice and very desirable design. 

Condition:  The piece is in relatively good condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has no repairs, or losses. The print itself has an age crack which can be seen in the photos. It also has some scratches and minor dings. It has lost some of the shine of the finish on the back and off the handle. Other than that it its is very nice and worthy of a spot in your collection of butter prints. Please see photos for additional condition information.
