Beautiful Antique Carved Wood Small Primitive Butter Print Stylized Pineapple Fruit Toothed Border

Description: A beautiful smaller size antique lathe turned and carved wood butter print. The butter print has a carving depicting a stylized carefully balanced plant with a stylized pineapple in the center. The pineapple is on a stem and has leaves emanating from the stem and around the fruit and extending to the edge which has teeth or short lines all around the circumference. The butter print has a small knob like handle in the center with a flat top. The entire piece appears to be made of a single piece of wood. See page 137 specifically figure V-190 in Paul Kindig's book "Butter Prints and Molds" published by Schiffer Publishing Ltd in 1986 for similar examples. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Mid to late 1800s.

Origin: Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: Measures ~3" in diameter at the design part and is ~2 1/2" high. The piece itself weighs about 1.5 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Very nice antique butter print with a nice and very desirable design. it would make a great addition to your butter print collection.

Condition: The piece is in good condition given its age and utilitarian function. It has acquired a nice warm age patina from years of use. It has no repairs, but some minor losses and dings at the top edge of the handle and on its sides. The print itself has several age cracks which can be seen in the photos. It also has some scratches and minor dings to the edge and the design itself. Other than that it its is very nice and worthy of a spot in your collection of butter prints.
