Lot of 2 Antique Bird Shaped Pennsylvania Flat Back Tin Cookie Cutters

  • $ 57.77

Description: A lot of two antique flat back tin cookie cutters. The two cutters, which are a great example of Pennsylvania country primitives, are in the shape of what we believe are two birds, one standing and the second in flight. One is a true flat back with no handle, while the second appears to have had a handle (you can see residue of solder on the back). They both have a small central hole top let the air out. The cutters are very well made and are solid with nice dark age patina and some rust spots. A nice lot of Pennsylvania German primitive tin implements worthy of a spot in your collection. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.

Date: Uncertain, but most likely from the mid to late 1800s.

Origin: They were both acquired at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Size: The standing bird cutter measures ~5 1/4" by ~3" and the design being ~3/4" high while the flying bird cutter measures ~5 1/4" by ~3 1/2" and the design being ~7/16" high. Both cutters together weigh ~3 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Nice antique cookie cutters with nice and very desirable Pennsylvania Dutch primitive designs. These old cutters would definitely make a great addition to your cutter, Americana or primitives collection.

Condition: Both cutters are intact with no break and no repairs. They are both original, are soiled, display signs of rust, and have acquired a dark patina with age. The rust spots are obvious throughout on both cutters, front and back. The flying bird cutter has lost it s handle as evidenced by the residue of solder on the back. The cutters may have been soldered at a later date and the flying bird's cutter has a spot within the design that is separated from the backing, but the design is still solidly in place. Both cutters show signs of distortion of the backing along the edge of the design. A pair of beautiful antique cutters are beautiful and worthy of a spot in your collection. Please see photos for additional condition information.
