Old Spatula Half Round Forged Iron Handle with Hanging Loop & Riveted Brass Head

Description: An unusual antique handmade spatula. The piece has a handle made of half round forged wrought iron and a head made of thick rectangular flat hammered brass. The handle is flattened at the end and is attached to the brass head, which has two canted corners. The head is attached to the handle with two steel rivets. The handle has a curved portion at the opposite end from the head for hanging. A very nice kitchen tool that is nice looking and would make a good addition to any collection. Date: Uncertain, but most likely mid to late 1800s (mid to late 19th century) , could be earlier.

Origin: Purchased at an antiques auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Size: The spatula measures ~12 1/2" long, with the head being ~3 1/4" by ~2 1/4". The piece weighs about 6 ounces.

Maker: Unknown.

Marks: Unmarked.

Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: A nice well made wrought iron and brass kitchen utensil that is good looking and would be a great addition to any collection.

Condition: The spatula is in overall good condition with no cracks or repairs. It has scratches, surface pitting, minor dings at the edge of the head, and signs of oxidation commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. Please see photos for additional condition information.
