1870s Deep Chip Carved Wood Butter Print Standing Cow Design Knob Shaped Handel

  • $ 177.77

Description: A beautiful antique turned and chip carved wood wooden butter print. The butter print, which is made of a single piece of wood, has the very desirable design of the cow. It is decorated with a deep carved cow standing on all four with plants in front of it, a tree behind it, and tree branches above it. The print has a round flat surface with a deep carved design of the cow, which is framed with an incised line while the edge of the print is decorated with a toothed design. The cow has horns and an udder as well as a tail, very interesting details. The print has a knob like handle on top. The entire piece appears to be made of a single piece of softwood. See page 161 figure V-328 and page 163 figure V-338 in Paul Kindig's book "Butter Prints and Molds" Published by Schiffer Publishing Limited of West Chester PA in 1986 for similar examples.
