1984 Russell Henry Glazed Deep Pottery Dish Colorful Pineapple & Heart Design
Description: A beautiful glazed deep dish with a flat round bottom having straight rising sides ending in a flared plain edge or rim. The deep dish is decorated with a drawing of a pineapple a symbol of hospitality in Pennsylvania German culture. The pine apple is surrounded by the words WELCOME TO OUR HOUSE followed by a small red heart. The dish is decorated with small flowers on long stems and having green leaves all along the edge. The side of the dish is also glazed and is off-white in color. The bottom of the bowl is unglazed and has incised in it the name of the artist, the date, and the name of the pottery. A very interesting bowl with a beautiful and interesting design that would make a nice addition to your art pottery or Russell Henry collection. Size: The dish measures ~7 1/4" in diameter at the base, ~9 1/4" diameter at the top, and is ~1 5/8" in height. the dish weighs over one pound and 10 ounces.
Maker: Left Handed Russell Henry.
Marks: Marked 3/84; "?H" (Back facing R and H); "HAY CREEK" for Hay Creek Pottery his company; "LEFT HANDED RUSSELL HENRY; all incised in block letters along the edge of the base.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a very nice piece of Russell Henry pottery that would make a nice addition to your collection.
Condition: The piece is in excellent condition with no chips, repairs, breaks, or hairlines. The piece has general crazing to the glaze and a few of the usual defects you would expect with all these primitive pieces of folk-art pottery such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas and uneven spots.
