1994 Carved Wood Painted Chipping Sparrow Wood base William (Bill) Faix NE MD
Description: A hand carved and polychrome painted wood bird. This extremely well done and nicely detailed carving is dated 1994. It is of a song bird, possibly a Chipping Sparrow standing on a piece of wood from a tree. The bird is gray and brown in color with a reddish top of its head and brown wire legs. The bird has brown eyes which appear to be glass eyes. The carving shows a bird standing, with what we believe are wire legs, on a brown colored tree trunk piece of wood as the base. The bird is long an elegant. It is pained in gray with dark brown wings and the top of its head is red. The bird is signed in black ink "Wm Faix/1994" in two lines on the bottom of the base and is also stampede "BILL FAIX NORTH EAST MD" in two lines again on the bottom of the base. It is in great condition with no observable damage. A great piece to add to your collection or use as a decorative accent. Date: The piece is dated 1994.
Origin: Purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Size: The bird itself is ~4 3/4" long, ~1 3/8" at its widest, with the base being ~5" by ~3" and the entire piece being ~3 1/2" at its highest. The piece weighs about 3.2 ounces.
Maker: William (Bill) Faix.
Marks: Signed in black ink "Wm Faix 1994" in two lines on the bottom of the base and also marked "BILL FAIX NORTH EAST MD" in two lines on the bottom of the base.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice piece of wood carving, which would make a worthy addition to your collection or as a decorative accent in your home.
Condition: The carving is in excellent condition, with no breaks, cracks, chips, or repairs. The piece has no appreciable loss to the colors. It has a few rough spots at the end of the tail and wings, which are original to the hand making process.
