2004 Dan Donna Strawser Carved Wood Painted Blue Colored Schimmel Style Bird
Description: A hand carved wood and polychrome painted American Folk Art figure. The carving shows a bird having a yellow beak and round eyes standing on a green elevated base. The bird is colored in blue coloring and has wings that have yellow colored highlights. The bird's legs, which are yellow in color, are carved in the Wilhelm Schimmel style with the fat toes and segmented leg. The bird also has yellow colored highlights on the carved tail Its large round eyes are circled in black with a white center having a black dot in the middle. The carving shows quite a bit of details with carving marks and a nice smoother surface. The entire piece appears to be carved from a single piece of wood. Origin: Although originally from Robesonia, Lancaster County, Daniel Stawser lives in Main with his wife Donna.
Size: Measures ~8" high with the base measuring ~3 3/4" by ~2". The piece weighs about 6.5 ounces.
Maker: Daniel and Donna Strawser.
Marks: Marked in black coloring on the base "D+D STRAWSER 7/04; PA". Donna would usually paint the piece while Daniel is the carver.
